Norway's Meg og kammeraten min, aka their English alterego Mr. E & Me and New Orchestral Hits 4 Kids (Naxos), is the act to follow for catchy, eloquent, contemporary pop music for children. MOKM have toured extensively over the years and are a favorite act at festivals, concert halls, libraries and schools. They have had their own one hour special on the national TV station NRK, backed by The Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Their music has been tagged as “The Pet Sounds” of children’s music with the complexity to please the most discerning ear while retaining the pure joy of great pop music. The american born Martin Hagfors (Meg), is an artist, composer and lyricist in his own right and a celebrated collaborator for the likes of The National Bank, Ellen Andrea Wang, Big Bang, Bobby Bare and Ida Jenshus. Erik Johannessen (Kammeraten) is a Norwegian composer, arranger and trombone playing member of Jaga Jazzist. He is also known for his studio work with Susanne Sundfør and The Trondheim Jazz Orchestra.

Meg og kammeraten min will release their sixth album “Sjeldne skjell” in October 2020, a concept album about aquatic life with magical and enchanting songs recorded once again with The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (NRK KORK), conducted by Nick Davies and augmented by high-profile musicians such as Mathias Eick (ECM-solo artist), Nikolai Hængsle (Big Bang/ Elephant 9) and Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist/AHA/Sundfør/Thomas Dybdal).

The title track will be released as a single July 3, 2020 and is your next favorite super catchy summer hit! Sjeldne shell (rare shells) is a classic tongue twister in the vain of “I see seashells on the seashore…” the song contemplates the visual differences of male and female seashells, night and day shells, red shells, blue shells and why most shells we find, are broken. The lyrics are a homage to Dr. Suess’ absurd “One Fish, Two Fish”, while the exquisitely arranged and performed music is as refreshing as a salty swim on a hot summer day.

All the singles and the album will be marketed with professional music videos on YouTube and social media platforms.
Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/58220812019-07-12T10:54:41+02:002020-11-18T14:51:51+01:00New Orchestral Hits 4 Kids

On Sept 13th, yepp Friday the 13th! I will be releasing a new album on the NAXOS label.

The album is called New Orchestral Hits 4 Kids and the band name is Mr. E & Me.

Mr. E. & Me is a spin off from Meg og kammeraten min

We challenged ourselves to arrange and record an orchestral album consisting of melodic pop songs but without involving a contemporary pop/rock rhythm section, and it worked! The unique timing of the orchestra is not constrained, and the arrangements give the individual musicians both playful dynamics and meaningful purpose. It’s so much fun writing and performing for a young audience and at the same time, keeping the older audience preoccupied with musical complexity and lyrical twists.

But first, an official house concert in Norway! My song writing buddy Jeff Wasserman of Jeffrey & The Free Radikals has an excellent house concert series going on in his spacious living room and I'm next up to bat. I've been looking forward to this concert for a long time, I'm bring my 60 year old Gibson J50 acoustic, a guitar that rarely leaves home and my all time favorite song writing tool. I'm also doing a couple of piano tunes and will bring a super small Fender Champ to compliment the non amplified vocals.

The main gig is with my band on Saturday which is also being recorded by NRK Radio. I'm bringing along a camera crew and hopefully something will materialize...

I'm also playing on Friday 10 at 17:00 for the kids with Meg og kammeraten min (Me and my buddy). This summer has mostly been dedicated to Meg og kammeraten min and the album that we released in June is doing great! We're # 14 on the Norwegian album charts and we're getting a lot of streaming hits as well!

Hi!

I've been busy with my Norwegian language side project Meg og kammeraten min. (Me and my buddy)
We are an offshoot of HGH(Hagfors Gebhardt Hello!) and it's me and my buddy Håkon Gebhardt's debut with a childrens album!
The reviews have been great, The largest Oslo paper Aftenposten regards it an instant classic!

We have a shit load of gigs coming up, check the live page and life, well life is good!

Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/1554322012-04-07T13:20:00+02:002017-01-14T01:08:36+01:00Going to Bergen to mix our new album! Meg og kammeraten min (me and my buddy) my buddy being Håkon Gebhardt are going back to Duper studio and having the brilliant Jørgen Træen mix our debut childrens album, Det e'kke bra før det er dårlig (It ain't good until it's bad). It's also my debut album singing in norwegian and will be our band, HGH's sixth release. The wiz kid Håkon Hoffart has once again delivered a great cover and if you go to this page you'll see 10 covers he has already done for me! Stay tuned!
Oh yeah, the Ford logo will be traded for a HGH logo...

Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/1479822012-03-14T22:55:00+01:002017-01-14T01:08:36+01:00New home page for HGH/Meg og kammeraten min
I'm on a school tour west of Trondheim-N, out in an area called Fosen. The first three days have been amazing, the scenery along the wild coastline is breathtaking, that's once you see past the rain, rain, rain, sleet and snow. I hear back home in Oslo spring has arrived. Anyhow, I'm on tour with Håkon Gebhardt and my old album cover wiz kid, Håkon Hoffart who once again steps up to the bat and is designing the cover for the new childrens album, Meg og kammeraten min. On tour he's the master of the overhead projector.
The players are all members of Jaga Jazzist besides having solo careers etc.
The album is coming along like a dream and we seem to be on track. Gebhardt wore the producers Zorro mask for most of the day while I ran around cracking lame jokes and try'n to convey what we wanted that was not on paper... speaking of, Erik will be writing down our music for a possible future song book for kids. Yesterday Saturday Oct 29th I played an in store concert at the great indie record store Big Dipper and signed a pile of Lp's and a few cd's.
Here's a link to one of the songs Company Oil recorded on Kai Mauseths camera, It's fun doing these orchestrated songs totally stripped.
Here's a link to the albums most densly orchestrated song Thick And Thin Skin recorded by a great kid Jonas who also recorded himself torwards the end of the song. Sweet!
I also visited NRK P2 Radio with Lars Horntveth, Eirik Tovsrud Knutsen and Erik Johannessen and had a long interview with Anne Bøler at Kulturhuset which was great, I got to talk for ages and we played three songs live. Last week I was at Lydverket NRK P3 radio and played a solo acoustic version of Not Now, nice interview, great people and an ok performance. I've also been by TV8 for an interview and a song Not Now, and Lars Horntveth and I got up at the middle of the night to do the breakfast show at TV2 and croak through Floating From A Dream and Not Now.

Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/1182452011-10-12T13:25:00+02:002017-01-14T01:08:36+01:00I Like You and me and him and her Yippee, the album has finally been released and the first reviews are sweet! Lars Horntveth and I celebrated in Pooka Studio along with mixer Jørgen Træen, Susanne Sundfør and Øystein Moen. Yepp I'm up in Trondheim continuing work on our HGH album for kids. My solo album has finally been sent off to Germany for production and with that work wrapped up I made a spur of the moment decision to cruise from Oslo to Trondheim in my 1961 Volvo. I'll be here for a few days recording and then spending one day with Ida Jenshus collaborating on her new album. Speaking of Ida, she introduced me to Bjørn Hansen the local tweeter. Nice man.

This weekend I attended the funeral of a young 17 year old girl named Maria.
Maria was an early victim of the massacre at Utøya and an unfathomable loss for her family and friends.
Maria was the daughter of my first guitar player in Home Groan, Terje Johannesen.
Terje was responsible for introducing me to my producer and friend Lars Horntveth and the rest of the Jaga Jazzist family resulting in our 15 year + collaboration.

This sad summer is coming to an end and with heavy hearts once again the creaking wheels must turn.
I will play with HGH at a small festival at Ringnes Farm on the 19th & 20th of August. The festival's director is Talleiv Taro Manum who was responsible for the cover of my solo album Men And Flies and the last HGH album All The Men In Dresses.

My long time HGH buddy Håkon Gebhardt and I have decided to record an album of original tunes for kids, so this week we started.
We're recording our first tracks at Gebhardt's Das Boot studio and it's a blast!! I had a good time in The Camelot in Nijmegen, nice town, good people and the last concert of the season for the gang of promoters. A couple of them Nick and Marta also run a small alternative concert promotion site called Red Shoe Sessions, that I plan on checking out some time. After the show the speakers were taken down and a pool table was put in place, what a team!

De Overkant in Wageningen was especially sweet with a great listening audience that inspired me to play for a couple of hours. I made a bunch of new friends, the arranger Sander had his shit together and Maaike and Michiel opened up their home to me down the street for a good nights sleep and to top things of, the local paper had my pretty face on the front page for good promotion. I'm in the middle of my tour of The Netherlands and had a gig in Nijmegen at The Camelot last night. Things are going well, traveling by train and meeting some great people.
I'm heading to Wageningen today which I find hard to say in Dutch, oh that place is the usual reaction to my pronunciation... On the first leg of the tour I commuted from my friend Sebastiano Varini's (Father Seb) house in Koog Ann Zaan which is just north of Amsterdam. I've also hung out with Betti and Neils who are a sweet couple, they are old Motorpsycho fans that named their adorable children after my touring companions Håkon Gebhardt and Marit Bjartnes. The kids, Mette Marit and Thor Håkon are taking english lessons from me ...tbc.

I was a big fan of Gil Scott Heron, I have most of his old LP's and have seen him live several times. I even worked with him once but for some reason I can't include him in weekyleaks as I can't find the tape...His whereabouts drifted out of my consciousness until about three years ago when I deliberately tried to find out what he was up to, I downloaded as many recent articles on him as possible which was pretty dismal reading and inspired by the reading sat down to write him a song, I wasn't happy with the song, I found it too weak for the subject matter so I threw it away. I liked the main theme though which is dedicating a library in his name, I mean all presidents get one, even the illiterate ones. The GSH Library.
I spent some time in NYC in late 2009 and managed to see him in concert along with Kari, I was writing material for my new album and we were both thrilled to find out he was actually performing again. He started the concert at the B.B. King Blues Club ( to quote my old friend the late great Rock Bottom; A Denny's with music) by saying, I bet you folks didn't think I'd show up! He was witty, entertaining and did some great songs but he was most definately just Pieces Of The Man he used to be.
I also got to see him last year at Rockefeller in Oslo and that was my last GSH concert after seeing him several times around Boston in the 80's, I think I saw him at Dinky Dawson's club, The Channel the first time. GSH always asked for The Fender Rhodes Suitcase model when performing. I love these pianos and I found one for my producer Lars Horntveth last year that he bought. Susanne Sundfør who sings on a couple of songs on my upcoming album also uses one, and yes it's all over my new album as well. Anyhow, enough digressions, Gil Scott Heron was at his best brilliant and has always been an inspiration. No one could get a political message across like he could and even the most grim satire could have you in stiches.

A flyer I kept from NYC.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none;

I just finished writing two songs for NRK Barnas Super Show (TV for kids) . I went by the producer Thomas Tofte at Propeller Recordings today to lay guide vocals on the songs. Jeg snakker kattespråk (I Speak Cat Language) & Myggen (The Mosquito). HGH (Hagfors-Gebhardt-Hello!)
We are currently driving around Oppland Norway playing concerts for pre school children and and having a ball. The roads are icy and the snow is deep.
On one of our daily excursions we drove by an incredible old country store called Fønhus Landhandel. We stopped, bought malt beer and promised to come back. The store was a real blast from the past with all sorts or weird stuff for sale and with a work bench to repair tools and chainsaws out back. So yesterday we made good our promise and gave the old shop owner Agnar Fønhus and his wife Bjørg a short concert, bought some more malt beer and promised to come back...Marit caught us on her camera, check out this video! Notice how Agnar pulls out a couple of pieces of dried fish try'n to show off for future customers..anyone?

Agnar Fønhus is the cousin of the famous naturalist author Mikkel Fønhus. Legend has it that just up the hill on another Fønhus farm 13 people found dead around the dinner table were burried in the cellar during the Black Death of 1350.

Also head on over to my weeklyleaks player and sit back for a brilliant never before heard concert with Tracy Chapman that I recorded when I did sound for her back in 1987, this was before she released her first album. Weeklyleaks player.
Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/778312011-01-19T16:47:24+01:002021-04-21T18:32:58+02:00Weeklyleaks Rick Danko- Susanne Sundfør vocals This weeks weeklyleaks.net presents Rick Danko, he's a real treat. Yesterday Lars Hontveth and I finally finished up recording the tracks for my new album "I Like You". The icing on the cake was provided by the incredible Susanne Sundfør
who laid down gorgeous backing vocals on two tracks, Hanging On To Innocence and Floating From A Dream.

Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/906912011-01-07T15:30:00+01:002011-01-07T15:30:00+01:00Weeklyleaks & Album recording completion So I finally got www.weeklyleaks.net up and running and it cost me a used thinkpad to get the windows based media player working. I have got to thank my buddy Jeff Wasserman for being patient and teaching me the ropes so the learning curve wasn't too high. I've got lots of hours ahead listening to great shows, can't say I mind.

My new album "I Like You" is still in the making but the recording sessions are now over, Lars and I had a great session with Morten Qvenild laying down piano & keyboards, Morten is really such an enthusiastic and brilliant player. He helped out on my last album Men And Flies as well. I owe him one!

We also had two different sessions with trombone player Erik Johannessen and horn (walthorn-French horn-waldhorn) player Trude Eick. They added their power and finess to Lars Horntveths grin breaking arrangements.

Martin Hagforstag:martinhagfors.com,2005:Post/896532010-12-19T17:10:00+01:002010-12-19T17:10:00+01:00Harp the heaven angels sing Lars Horntveth and I recorded harpist Sunniva Rødland Wettre at the Norwegian College of Music on Friday Dec 17 2010. She laid some beautiful tracks on three songs.
A Voice Dipped In Honey, Freedom From The Hounds and Floating From a Dream. We recorded her with two microphone setups, one being a pair of Neumann 184's for a wide stereo spread and the other being a AEA R88 stereo ribbon mic a little closer to the harp. What a beautiful instrument! We borrowed the AEA off our keyboard friend Morten Qvenild who will also lay down some tracks this coming Tuesday.

New music has been written, a new album is in the works and once again Lars Horntveth is arranging and producing. Title I LIKE YOU

I was fired as CEO over at Home Groan Productions but after some heavy bribing was reinstated to lead this rubber raft over the choppy seas of the music business.

I am taking control over my online presence and will keep you informed, give you stuff and generally be more available for chit chat.

Plans! Yes I have a bunch of plans, one being;

Weeklyleaks

I was once a live sound man and have two beautiful suitcases full of cassettes that I recorded Off The Board, most of them twenty years old with some great artist like, Stan Getz, Tracy Chapman, Townes Van Zandt, Bill Monroe, Carl Perkins, Mick Taylor, Astor Piazzolla, Etta James, Les Paul, Albert King, Dr John the list goes on. Anyhow I plan on starting a new blog called "OFF THE BOARD" where I will review the shows and stream some of them for your listening pleasure. These cassettes have never been copied and I just want to make them available so you can tune in and check out tracks from a past gold mine.

Stay tuned

Martin Hagfors
